From the Managing Directors’ desk:
This week we onboarded a new member to the team (will announce in due time), but we also lost one. Now, to be fair, the person we “lost” will still be in contact with us for future work - not burning bridges is an important of our culture at Faiā. Due to our integrity and transparency, we were able to part ways in a very amicable manner (granted, realistically, not all partings may be so smooth). We know it’s a natural part of business, but it doesn’t make it any easier for a company that values its people.
At Faiā, we practice something called the daily scrum, a ritual adapted from agile software development. It is a rhythm we’ve also incorporated into our productivity accelerator, The Pack, which is where we derive a lot of how we build out productive teams and communities for our clients. Through an adapted version of the daily scrum, we were actually able to identify - very early on - shifts in mood and productivity. This is what ultimately led to a heart-to-heart with the team member we had to let go of, but we were able to be very honest with each other about the causes.
At work, productivity isn’t always about what’s happening directly infront of us. There are myriad variables, most of which can come from our personal lives away from work. No matter what the cause, we should always acknowledge that every person is on their own their own personal journey - and we will always support them in theirs, even if it means parting ways.
Some may look at this as a failure, we look at it as a success. Failure is only ever a failure if you accept it as such and don’t learn anything from it. From this experience, we learned that if you do right by others, they will do right by you too. It often takes longer, and requires a lot of trust upfront, but the payoffs can be huge in the long-run.
To our colleague, we wish you all the best in your next chapter!
